Random facts

Because I am taking a break from work. Well not actually facts since I'm not double checking with Wikipedia or anything..

- Percussion is the oldest type of musical instrument with the exception of the human voice.

- Percussion is the most diverse group of instruments!

- Percussion is usually the backbone/pulse/heartbeat of any musical ensemble.

- Percussion is also used for dramatic effect and imitating natural sounds.

- In other words, percussion plays rhythm, harmony and melody. This makes the role of a percussion section varied and ever-changing. And indispensable.

- The difference between percussive noise and percussive music is how the percussionist plays with his/her heart rather than just mechanically playing the bean sprouts on the sheet music.

- According to Mr Takafumi Miyake (TKWO perc), percussion has the highest and lowest instruments in an orchestra: the triangle and bass drum respectively.

- It is important to keep instruments clean because they give others their first impression of a percussion section.

- A good percussionist should be a well-rounded musician (and not just a drummer) with the ability to play most, if not all, of the section's instruments. After all, what is the point of a percussion section being the most diverse in an ensemble if its percussionists cannot play the instruments?

- Percussion rocks =)
